When a person’s shining eyes light up with a dream, they have no idea it has a beginning and an end. The beginning is difficult and unbearably long, but the end is somehow sadly quick and irrevocable. We only remain happy in the process.
I want to play on stage…,
perform in a band…,
sing at concerts…,
become popular…!
— comes from many music fanatics.
It’s a great dream, but I want to ask you three important questions:
For what? How much? What is the goal?
Why do you want to make music?
This question has been covered in previous articles. The most important thing to understand is that neither money nor fame can replace the reason why you want to devote your energy to music.
How much money do you want to earn?
If you say money is not the main thing, then I seriously doubt that you will be ready to speak out for it. Your time, effort, nerves, and resources cost money.
Determine in advance how much money you want to make from music. To do this, you need to understand when to start and stop doing commercial business (music for money). After achieving this goal, you can continue playing and composing music, but for less money or simply for charity.
What is your ultimate goal?
Absolutely, this is very important. You must know when you will “retire.”
Don’t be like our aging stars. You look at some and realize that their voices are completely gone, and there’s no trace of creativity left, yet they still move around the stage and perform like young people. By undermining their health and cherishing the dream of dying on stage, artists can no longer stop and get their fill of this sweet drug called “fame.” It’s important to understand that everyone has a certain limit.
It would be superfluous to tell here who and how their voice breaks, their grip is lost, etc. In general, the meaning is clear. You must have a plan for both the beginning of your career and its wonderful end.
An example is the reign of the Roman Caesar Diocletian.
As soon as he ascended the throne, he immediately informed the people that his reign would last 20 years, during which time he pledged to bring order to the empire. After fulfilling his obligation, this wise ruler resigned from his post, having first left a successor in his place. He began growing cabbage and was happy. Even when, after the unsuccessful reign of his successor, the people came to him with a request to return, he refused.
When you finish, you should leave at the very peak, fill a large stadium, or create a “last” masterpiece that your grateful fans will remember for many years and thank from the bottom of their hearts for their attention to your work.
To leave, satisfied with one’s achievements and deservedly sold creativity; a healthy, happy and wealthy person who might start a different career.
After all, you need to know your limits in everything.
