I don’t have enough time to learn something?!
The fact that many people don’t have enough time to do what they want only speaks to a lack of desire. The excuse of “lack of time” is merely an illusion, as anyone can find five or ten minutes in their daily work and rest schedule to study.
I don’t have the patience to practice guitar every day?!
The term “patience” is defined differently by everyone. For some, patience means difficult and grueling work over long periods of time, while for others, it’s a five-minute break from their main activity. Then again, we’re not little children who can’t concentrate on something for 10 minutes. Even my students at music school (the youngest was 7 years old) could easily “sit it out” for five or even 10 minutes. Of course, if your goal is to force yourself to sit with your guitar every day, it’s best to quit before it’s too late. There is no need to force yourself!
I think I can’t learn on my own without a teacher?!
What nonsense?! This is complete nonsense. Of course, you can learn without a teacher.
Just think about it: why do you need a teacher?
To help you place your finger on the right string? No.
To listen to your playing and point out any imperfections? No.
To show you what you don’t yet know? Definitely not (that kills your desire to learn).
So what is the purpose of a teacher?
A teacher is your learning program.
A teacher, analyzing their experience: understanding what they did well and what they did poorly, where they made mistakes that could have been avoided, and determining how to achieve that result faster and better, creates their own learning program.
That’s what a teacher is for. It shows a clear step-by-step algorithm or plan of what and how to achieve it. If you have this algorithm, then achieving your goal will happen sooner or later.
TO “LEARN TO PLAY THE GUITAR,” YOU NEED:
Desire, Self-Discipline, and a Program.
