Audience Analysis
Punk rock’s target audience is people who firmly believe the country is being mismanaged, and they’re not necessarily punks in leather jackets and mohawks..
The gender is predominantly male. They are characterized by stark, unadorned lyrics. They are mostly confirmed bachelors. Women rarely choose punk rock, unless it’s in their youth and for a short time.
The age range is very broad and can span several decades (roughly speaking, from 14 to 50 years old). According to statistics, people dissatisfied with politics at 60 years old rarely listen to punk rock music.
It’s difficult to write about politics for different age groups. Each age has its own views and thoughts. It is better to limit the range to a slightly narrower difference of 5-10 years. Get a feel for the crowd, watch videos, read comments on the topic. In other words, figure out what to write about to make the topic relevant to your audience.
Some bands position themselves as punk rock, but to my great regret, their lyrics don’t align with the music at all.
These bands adhere to the genre’s canons, but they don’t adhere to the theme. Therefore, more and more bands are appearing that play mixed genres. For some, this may be a good thing. But I think it’s just experimentation and a lack of deep knowledge. I listen to these bands myself. It’s hard to classify them as pure punk rock, even though the leaders claim they play punk.
This is a rough selection of the audience, but based on at least this data, it is already possible to create texts that will catch the attention of those who propagandize about the state’s mistakes. Using this information, you can already form a punk band and begin creating lyrics for specific listeners.
Punk rock mistake:
Writing about relationships between two people (friendship, love), lyrics without meaning, and the like.
If you’ve written lyrics for a song with a social theme, it’s best to choose country or pop music.
EXAMPLES:
Love songs with a 200 tempo and a crazy, scratchy guitar in the background would sound awkward. It is also absurd to play an original (bard) song with the subtext “All politicians are thieves,” using a quiet and kind voice and the classic strumming of a seven-string guitar. Agree?! It’s not punk rock.
In conclusion, I’ll repeat: the way you feel and perceive the world is something no one else on earth experiences. Consequently, finding fans of your work becomes a very difficult task. Therefore, it’s crucial to find lyrical topics that encompass other people’s interests. Then people will listen to you.
