In fact, this is just the beginning.
If you’ve been making music for a while and feel like you’ve reached your limit, please read this post.
There’s a solution for you. You’ll find it below.
A big problem for many musicians is that if they’re let in somewhere, allowed to play, and even paid, they, like loyal dogs, stay with their club for a long time.
It used to be that when we played at clubs, they’d simply buy us drinks for every gig, and it’s terrifying to remember that we agreed to play for free, just to play.
But that was before; at least 12 years have passed, maybe more. Values have changed, experience has accumulated, skills have been learned and honed, and it’s now impossible to imagine playing for a can of beer.
It’s not the same level.
But, unfortunately, even very experienced musicians, for 20-30 years!!!, still play for the bare minimum or for a generous handout in the form of alcohol from club owners.
If you find yourself in the above lines, consider what awaits you, dear musicians!
- a drop in demand for you
- a sharp decline in fans
- hackneyed songs
- the cost of your services is getting lower and lower
- strong competition from new progressive bands
I feel very sorry for people who have everything to become significant figures, but they spend their whole lives feeling sorry for themselves, drowning their sorrows in wine, and constantly complaining that they, or he, or someone else, could have become this or that, but THEY, HE, or SOMEONE is to blame.
What can you do?
Of course, you can pass on your vast accumulated experience to young musicians. Just imagine, if you were to go back 10 years, with your current experience, what would you have done then? How many mistakes could you have prevented? How many paths would have opened up, knowing what you know now?
So give this opportunity to others. Perhaps on that internet connection sits a young and determined musician, but constantly making mistakes. He/she is advancing independently, in their own way. Give them a plan or give them an idea on how to get where they want to go faster. Become a mentor, a teacher, a friend, and shorten a lifelong journey into a few difficult but productive months of work.
Decide now, change now. Whatever you decide, it will be the right decision for you. If you decide to leave things as they are, accept both the responsibility and the consequences.
The choice is yours! Good luck!
